War Drama Ya Zakhmon Ka Safar?

Jang ke maidan mein goliyaan sirf dushman par nahi chalti, kabhi-kabhi yeh yaadon, khwabon, aur insaniyat par bhi vaar karti hain. Australian director Justin Kurzel ne Richard Flanagan ke award-winning novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North ko screen par utaar kar yeh baat sabit kar di hai — jang sirf barood ka khel nahi, ek rooh ka imtihaan hai.

Hollywood ke bare-bare naam war movies ki taraf khinche chale aate hain jaise yeh ek director ka agnipariksha ho. Kuch log “Masters of the Air” jaise shows banaate hain jahan jang ko ek thrilling adventure jaisa dikhaya jaata hai — jaise zindagi aur maut ka ye khel koi 1940s ka action comic ho. François Truffaut ne ek baar kaha tha, “Har war film aakhir mein pro-war ban jaati hai.” Shayad isi liye har uniform pehene aadmi ko hero banana kaafi asaan padta hai.

Lekin Kurzel ka ye show us daayre se bahar nikalta hai. Yeh ek anti-glamour, anti-patriotic, aur anti-fantasy war saga hai — jo dil ko cheer kar rakh deta hai.

Is kahani ke center mein hai Dorrigo Evans — pehle ek masoom Australian medical student, baad mein ek tor-phor ke baad nikla hua, award-winning lekin khud se zakhmi surgeon. Jacob Elordi ne jawaani ka Dorrigo nibhaya hai, jabke Ciarán Hinds ne us budhape ke Dorrigo ko jiya hai, jiske chehre par har lamhe ki parchhai dikhti hai.

Yeh kahani teen waqt mein banti hai — jang se pehle, uske darmiyaan, aur uske baad ka jeena. Battlefield? Nahin bhai, yahan koi Saving Private Ryan jaisa dhamaka nahi milega. Yahaan jang ek Japanese prisoner-of-war camp mein chhupi hui hai — jahaan insaan apna wajood kho deta hai. Burma Railway par ghulami jaisi mehnat, bhook, thakan, aur beizzati ka aalam hai. Goli se zyada talwaron ki chammak, aur heroism se zyada bechaari insaniyat hai.

Dorrigo, ek waqt ke idealist lover boy se ek thak-chuka, sarcastic surgeon ban gaya hai jo Sydney mein rehta hai, lekin andar se ab bhi Burma ke jungle mein hi basa hua hai. Ek journalist ke sawaal par jab woh Japanese logon ko “monsters” kehta hai, toh woh Hiroshima-Nagasaki ke dard ka counter-point sunta hai — yeh show koi ek-sided deshbhakti ka bhashan nahi, balki dard ka balanced courtroom hai.

Kurzel ne ek baat samajh li hai — asli jang woh hoti hai jo khatam hone ke baad bhi khatam nahi hoti.

Koi flashy explosions nahi, koi patriotic background score nahi. Yahaan sirf silence hai, guilt hai, aur ek aisi kahani jo seene par patthar rakh kar sunni padti hai.

Toh agar aap ek aur heroic battlefield fantasy dekhne aaye ho, toh shayad yeh show aapke liye nahi. Lekin agar aap us jang ki tasveer dekhna chahte ho jo kisi soldier ke andar chhupi hoti hai — toh “The Narrow Road to the Deep North” aapka imtihaan bhi lega… aur aapko tod kar rakh dega.
